The ‘Voice of Dementia’ is a moving film with moments of laughter, sadness and inspiration. It shows people with dementia talking about their lives, their diagnosis and the importance of being listened to. The film has been made to promote greater awareness of the need to involve and listen to people with dementia in making choices and decisions about their lives and the support and services that they want.

There is an assumption that people with dementia immediately lose their autonomy and identity, and somehow become incapable of having a say about their lives and the services they receive. Sheffield Alzheimer’s Society has successfully set out to challenge that myth.

The Society runs two support groups for people with dementia – no carers allowed! – and this film gives an insight into to the articulate, supportive and celebratory community that has blossomed there.
